A50 Blythe Bridge to Uttoxeter Road Closed After Two Crashes
Heavy snow in Staffordshire has led to the closure of a main road, causing significant disruption for commuters and travelers. The A50 between the A522 at Uttoxeter and the A521 at Blythe Bridge Roundabout has been closed following two separate crashes, although the westbound closure has been lifted. This has resulted in a significant impact on traffic flow in the area.
On the M6 in Cheshire, severe delays have eased after an earlier crash between junction 18 for Middlewich and junction 17 for Sandbach. However, the road remains a challenge due to the ongoing weather conditions.
London Northwestern trains between Crewe and Stafford are currently operating on a reduced service, with buses replacing trains due to overhead line problems. This disruption affects services via Stoke-on-Trent, causing further inconvenience for commuters.
In Staffordshire, several roads are reported to be impassable or just passable due to snow. These include:
- A51 London Road northbound, impassable between New Road (Hixon) and A518 Stafford Road (Weston).
- A518 Weston Road, impassable in both directions due to snow from Boat Lane (Weston) to Blackheath Lane (Beaconside).
- A34, just passable in both directions due to snow from A513 Beaconside (Marston Gate) to A51 (Aston Island, Stone).
- A34 Congleton Road, impassable in both directions due to snow from Talke Road (Talke Pits) to A5011 Linley Road (Talke Traffic Lights, Talke).
In Cheshire, the following roads are also affected:
- A534, impassable in both directions due to snow from A5020 University Way (Crewe Green roundabout, Crewe Green) to A533 Old Mill Road (Old Mill roundabout, Sandbach).
- A5020 University Way, impassable due to snow from A532 Weston Road (Crewe Hall) to A534 (Crewe Green roundabout, Crewe Green).
- A500 Westbound, just passable due to snow from M6 J16 to A51 Nantwich Bypass (Cheerbrook Roundabout, Blakelow).
- A530 Middlewich Road, just passable in both directions due to snow from Brynlow Drive (Middlewich) to Eardswick Lane (Bradfield Green).
Cheshire Police is urging drivers to only travel if necessary due to the snow and ice, highlighting the efforts of officers who have been battling the conditions throughout the night. The impact of the weather has also led to the closure of two high schools in Nantwich, Brine Leas and Malbank.
In Staffordshire, a number of schools have been shut due to the weather. For the most up-to-date list of closures, visit the official website: https://apps2.staffordshire.gov.uk/sln/schoolclosures/.
